    I've only travelled in TPE first class between Leeds and York once in January. It was OK, it was a doubled up 185 but it was 15+ minutes late and we had to sprint to make our connection in York. I am currently in Whsley Bridge, I travelled down from Haymarket on Avanti then changed at Preston and Manchester Piccadilly.

    Good TPE checks Roger. I thought you might have returned with TPE's East Coast service but perhaps the timings didn't suit. As for the Midland hotel ... it's a good choice being located adjacent to Manchester Exchange closed in 1969. I stayed (end 1980s press trip)at the Midland around the time it was a Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza and stayed again with the family around 1990. Holiday Inn cuts corner with renovation and the cash seemed to have been spent on public areas unlike the rooms which were of course refurbished but then turned into the sort of accommodation you would find in a Holiday Inn ! Since then, according to Wiki, the property has changed hands a couple of times.

    • @RogEdwardsTV
      @RogEdwardsTV День тому

      Thanks, Alex. The Midland’s just undergone a £14m refurb courtesy of Leonardo Group. It’s very impressive and they’ve brought back the railway motifs. There was a little service glitch which really annoyed me, sadly. All will be revealed soon. 🤔

      @@RogEdwardsTV I look forward to viewing the video, Roger. In our case we took Dan Air LGW-MAN (three hour delay) hired a Vauxhall Cavalier from Avis at MAN around Saturday midnight, drove to the Midland and then the reception staff couldn't locate our booking. Great video (as are most of your vids) and nice to see the beautiful scenery along that route. Not sure how I would cope with those seats though as I travelled on the CrossCountry Voyagers to/from Birmingham a month ago (would love to see a review of CrossCountry from your channel in the future if you get time) and found the seats quite uncomfortable even though they have more padding (ended up with a slight bum ache at the end of both my 45-50 min journeys which means the padding had hardened up a bit) but those standard class seats really would take the cake if I ever rode them - at least I know what to expect if I ever ride companies like TransPennine Express & LNER for long journeys. Just a perfect example of how the people who design these seats are most likely people who've either never travelled on long train journeys before or just don't care for the comfort of other passengers. I don't travel by rail that often as I mostly drive and partially because of the rail prices although I have started travelling by train a bit more over the last year.

    I travelled from Edinburgh to Newcastle last year. I travelled one way with Transpennine and back with LNER both in standard class. I agree the seats in Standard class on Transpennine are terrible. I felt them uncomfortable to sit in even for short journeys. Surprisingly I find the seats on LNER to be slightly better with a bit more padding on the base and I find them tolerable for a journey of up to two hours. Don’t know if I’d say the same for a full journey from Edinburgh to London.

    Great video. We're flying with Jet2 in September and looking forward to it. Flew with them a few years ago and they were very good. Flew with Ryanair the last couple of years and got stung for nearly £50 for a bag that was slightly bigger than your average tablet. The sour faced woman was clearly on a mission to rake in as much as she could. That was us just setting off on holiday, great start. It will never happen again as I simply won't ever fly with them again. Out of principle I would rather pay more for a flight than give as much as a single penny to Ryanair.

    What a lovely area. I can understand that this is a place I must visit. Directly flight Bergen-Edinburgh, train to Glasgow and another train, that’s not too hard of a journey 😊 Cheers! That beer looked nice 😅

    Hi mate, like the video, a couple of things I’d like to mention, First, the service from Wallyford to Dundee (E1X) Doesn’t Stop at the Same Stops as the Service from Edinburgh (E1), the E1X Only stops at Wallyford, St Andrews Square, Kinross and Dundee, Where as the E1 Stops at St Andrews Square, Haymarket Railway Station, Edinburgh Zoo, Ingliston P&R, Edinburgh Airport (Between 1am & 6am), Rosyth, Kinross, Bridge of Earn, Perth (Walnut Grove), St Madoes, Inchture, Longforgan, Dundee Riverside Drive and Dundee Railway Station. Second, Ember don’t tend to go over the Forth Road Bridge and Normally will use the Queensferry Crossing because it’s Quicker, normally if they use the Forth Road Bridge if They Skip Ingliston (Due to No Passengers), If they are running early to an extent, Heavy Traffic or Forced Diversion unless both Bridges are Shut when it’ll go round Via Kincarden and down the M9 (Only Seen it once Though) Same with all Intercity Services except for Fishers 231, 236, 258 & 262 Services which stop On the South Side of the Bridge. Third, ScotRail is one word not two. Forth, When you were on the A90 you referred to it as the Motorway, The A90 is a Duel Carriage Way due to a Lack of Hard Shoulders. And Fifth and Final thing, Not All Public Transport Vehicles can cross the Forth Road Bridge, Doubt a Train will be able to cross that or a Plane 😂 If you Find this abit Arsey then sorry, Just I like things to be Correct, bit of an autistic thing 😅

    • @RogEdwardsTV
      @RogEdwardsTV 8 днів тому

      It’s quite a compact area, Betsy. But because you have to go back into the village to cross the bridge it does add up. My FitBit says I walked about 7 miles - but I do go backwards and forwards a bit doing different shots! 😀

    My village! Yes, Scotrail makes sure we always have the worst trains on the network. I worked in the Visitor Centre for a few years, it was a great job. It's actually located in the old station building because until the very late 80s the railway line went all the way down to the pier. When they closed that station they decide to move Balloch station to get rid of the level crossing. There used to be a signal box next to the station building too. There's a great wee coffee place you missed right at the pier, they only have outdoor seating but on a sunny day it's the best place to sit! Yeah I don't think anyone local likes the main building at Lomond Shores very much. When it was getting built its nickname was Chernobyl. It was never originally meant to be a sealife centre - when it first opened it was a visitor centre that had next to nothing in it. So understandably it got very few visitors, and they ended up selling it to the sealife centre company. The state of the castle is a disgrace. Until about 15 years ago it was open and in use as a museum and gift shop. Prior to that it was also a conference centre. Its owned by Glasgow City Council, but leased to West Dunbartonshire Council who seem to have decided to let it rot, but there are a couple of local interest groups that are trying to change the castle's fortunes. The garden next to the Castle is called the Chinese Garden, though there's nothing much Chinese about it these days. It's still nice to wander round though. The Walled Garden is a hidden gem - even on busy days it tends to be quiet. Unlike the castle it's had a lot of work done to it to restore it. There are some amazing walks near the village too, like Stoneymollan (very steep), Whinny Hill, and further out at Gartocharn there's the Dumpling and the RSPB reserve. Also, there's at least 3 river levens - the third one is at Kinlochleven!

      Sue, thanks so much for all that information which is really interesting. I hope the castle gets restored. I was very taken with the Walled Garden. It felt very private. Looking back they should have kept the railway line all the way to the pier. Thanks again for watching. 😀

    At 02:31 you mention the River Leven and it's counterpart in Fife. Now, the Leven in Fife drains Loch Leven which is watched over by the Lomonds, East & West (aka the Paps o' Fife). The Leven in Dunbartonshire drains Loch Lomond (formerly Loch Leven) which is watched over by Ben Lomond. Your challenge is to find a link between Leven & Lomond.

      @RogEdwardsTV Yes was a school trip, and we got off at Rowardennan. The Maid sailed on the Loch between 1953-81. We used to holiday, "Doon the watter", in the '60's, & the paddlers were my favourites!
